A variety of conditions, including aging, lead to the deterioration of the muscles that move the hyoid bone and contribute to an effective swallow. These conditions increase the risk for pneumonia and other problems. In this line of research, we explore the potential benefits of biosensors and smart games to strengthen the suprahyoid muscles to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of a swallowing response.
